Captain Sára Kousková and her team dominated the team competition at the Team-Aramco Korea Championship of the Ladies European Tour (LET) series in Seoul, South Korea, this weekend. The Czech golfer led her team to victory after a score of -21, one shot ahead of the French team of Delacour.
The team portion of the Aramco Korea Championship was played on Friday and Saturday 9-10 May. Captain Sára Kousková chose American Brianna Navarrosa as her teammate, who was joined by Patricia Isabel Schmidt (GER) and Lee Anne Pace (JAR).
The main rivals of the Czech captain’s team turned out to be the team of Frenchwoman Perrine Delacour, who took the lead after the first day by one shot over Sára Kousková’s team. Although the second round did not go well and especially after 8 shots on the par-4 4th hole she missed the cut for the final round of the individual event, but her team managed to win on Saturday with a winning score of -21 and one shot ahead of Delacour’s team. The Czech golfer later described her role as captain in a press release saying, “I am obviously very happy that we won. Moreover, I am celebrating my first win as team captain. It’s a very special feeling. I’m very proud of the girls from the team that we pulled it off today, it was the only way to survive such tough conditions. It may seem from the outside that the team competition is just a complement to the individual one, but in reality we take it just as seriously as any individual win. We had great team chemistry across all eight team members.I think that’s the main thing you need to tune in, and even if someone is not doing well, to support each other. It’s just a little different than a traditional tournament. Of course I tried my best to help the team, I had a lot of promising positions where I could have improved my score, but individually it just wasn’t on my side today. I’m even more happy that we managed to pull it off with the team. We had a lot of tough par saves today and Lee-Anne showed at the end that she’s still world-class. Her birdie came at the right time.”
As a result, each player on captain Kousková’s winning team will take home a $35,000 cheque as her share of the team prize purse as a share of the team competition prize money.
Sára Kousková’s triumph at the TEAM Aramco Korea Championship follows on from her second place finish at the Aramco team competition in Riyadh earlier this year and her team victory in Saudi Arabia in 2023, but now she takes home the win from Seoul for the first time as captain. “Obviously this format has worked well for us so far this year, finishing second and first is no fluke. Especially since the amateur element in the team has disappeared compared to last year and we are playing four professionals,” Kousková said of her growing success in team competitions.
