South African professional Casandra Alexander won the seventh edition of the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open at the Royal Beroun Golf Club as her first title on the Ladies European Tour. The best Czech woman was amateur Natálie Saint Germain and the highest among the local professionals was Sára Kousková.
Twenty-five-year-old Alexander entered the tournament with a 73 (+1), but showed an unprecedented turnaround over the weekend. She played 64 (-8) in the second round and crowned the final round with a new tournament record of 62 (-10) with two eagles and six birdies without a bogey. Overall, she carded 17 under par and won by two shots from Spain’s Luna Sobron and England’s Esme Hamilton.
“It’s a huge satisfaction for the last weeks when I had knee surgery. I’m glad to be back in Beroun because it’s a great tournament, made all the sweeter because I won here for the first time on the LET,” said Alexander, who secured the triumph with a chip-in on her final hole and her second eagle of the day.
The sensation of the tournament was 9th place amateur Natalie Saint Germain, the best of the 11 Czech players, on a score of 13 under par (72-65-66). It was a dream come true to make the cut already,” said the 22-year-old University of Houston student after receiving the award for the tournament’s top amateur.
The top Czech pro was Sara Kouskova, the runner-up in this year’s European rankings, who shared the final 13th place.
“The whole tournament was an amazing experience. Playing at home, in front of so many fans, it gave me energy,” said the winner of two Ladies European Tour tournaments this year after finishing 12 under par (70-67-67).
“I would like to thank Tipsport for an excellent tournament and Royal Golf Club Beroun for a well prepared course. I would love to come back here again,” said the winner Casandra Alexander, who won 45,000 of the 300,000 euro subsidy.
The prizes were awarded to the best players by the tournament promoter Luboš Koželuh, Tipsport Chairman Vratislav Randa, Royal Beroun GC President Vojtěch Matějček and Czech Golf Federation President Petr Uhlík. ‘I would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of the seventh edition of the tournament, which was the best in its history in every respect,’ said Luboš Koželuh.
