Extremely high temperatures have, conversely, led to record-low scores at the 8th annual Tipsport Czech Ladies Open. To advance to Sunday’s final round of the Ladies European Tour tournament, players had to shoot at least 5 under par over two rounds!
A total of 62 golfers, including five Czech professionals, met this threshold at the Royal Beroun Golf Club. Jana Melichová is faring the best; four years after her victory here, she is tied for 11th place at 9 under par (67-68). Over the tournament’s 36 holes, she carded ten birdies and a single bogey.
Two strokes back, Tereza Zapletal Koželuhová (67-70) is tied for 26th place; on Saturday, she repeated her eagle on the 7th hole and had previously made a birdie on the 18th, which she had also conquered with an eagle on Friday. Lucie Váchová made the cut at her first home LET event and is tied for 37th place at 6 under par (67-71).
In the end, both Sára Kousková (65-74) and Patricie Macková (69-70) advanced to the final round by exactly one stroke. They didn’t realize it at the time they finished their rounds, but both Czech players saved a birdie at the very last moment.
For Kousková, who had a double bogey on the 16th hole, it came on the par-5 18th, while for Macková, it was on the par-4 9th. Her score of 5 under par puts her in a tie for 50th place.
Kristýna Napoleaová (74-67) and Anna Andrýsová (69-72) ultimately missed the cut by two strokes. Napoleaová, however, had the best Czech round on Saturday and a great finish: three birdies on the last four holes, including the 18th, where her eagle putt just grazed the edge of the hole. Even the second-best Czech round of the day wasn’t enough to advance Tereza Melecká (75-68), who finished at 1 under par. Natálie Saint Germain (72-73) and amateurs Annika Kohoutek (78-72) and Kateřina Šmolíková (76-78) also failed to make the cut.
Heading into the final round, Sweden’s Lisa Pettersson (66-65) and England’s Charlotte Heath (65-66) are tied for the lead at 13 under par. Finnish player Noora Komulainen (65-67) trails them by one stroke, while England’s Esme Hamilton (64-69) and New Zealander Amelia Garvey (68-65) are tied for fourth place at 11 under par. The first-round leader, Lydia Hall (63-72) of Wales, has dropped to 11th place.
Due to weather conditions, the final round will start earlier: the first flights tee off at 7:30 a.m., and the last at 9:20 a.m. (from holes 1 and 10). Live coverage on Oneplay Sport begins at 10:00 a.m.
